Handwoven from locally sourced organic cotton and natural tree rubber.
HERB DYED YARN
Herbal dyeing is a manual and archaic process. The herbs are picked from the Agasthya forests on the Western Ghats. These forests are home to 2000 plant species, 400 of them native, and most of them medicinal. Recently, UNESCO added these forests to its list of ‘most perfect biospheres’ in the world.
No chemicals are used at any stage of the production process.
Rather than breathing in the chemicals that all synthetic and rubber mats are treated with, you’ll be breathing in Ayurvedic herbs instead.
All the artisans working on our honest mat are paid a fair wage.
Absolutely no child labour is used and no animals are ill-treated.
Each mat takes 10 days to make using an incredibly skilful weaving technique passed down through generations.
You will find three fundamental elements to each of our herbal combination:
- A strong antibacterial herb to kill germs from sweat and keep your mat clean
- A cleansing herb to keep your skin healthy when in constant contact with your mat
- A calming, stress-relieving herb to increase the quality of your practice
RAIN HARVESTED WATER
All the water used in making our Honest Mat is rain harvested, and the used water is returned to the soil to cultivate the crops and shrubs.
The entire production process is powered by the sun - a renewable, free source of energy that is sustainable and totally inexhaustible.
